The Extension is a utility designed to improve the user experience on Panopto video pages by automatically redirecting “Viewer” pages to “Embed” pages.

3. Permissions and Technical Justification

To function correctly, the Extension requires specific permissions within your browser. We are committed to transparency regarding why these permissions are necessary:

• Read and change your data on specific sites (host_permissions for *.panopto.eu):
  • Reason: The Extension must be able to read the current URL in your browser tab to determine if you are visiting a Panopto “Viewer” page. If a match is found, it updates the tab to the “Embed” URL.
  • Limitation: This permission is strictly limited to domains ending in .panopto.eu. The Extension cannot access data on any other websites you visit.
• Read your browsing history (webNavigation):
  • Reason: Technically, the Chrome Web Store classifies the ability to detect navigation events as “reading browsing history.” This permission allows the Extension to detect when you navigate to a new page so it can trigger the redirection immediately, preventing the original page from fully loading.
  • Limitation: We do not save a log of your history. The navigation data is processed instantaneously in the computer’s memory to perform the redirect and is then immediately discarded.

4. GDPR Compliance (EU Users)

For users in the European Union and Denmark:

• Data Controller: The developer of this Extension acts as the Data Controller.
• Legal Basis: We do not process personal data; therefore, typical data processing agreements are not applicable.
• Your Rights: Since we do not store any of your data, we do not possess information to provide, rectify, or delete. Your anonymity is preserved by design.
